The School Nurse/Teacher of Health Education and Certificate Program prepares registered nurses who have a baccalaureate degree to provide nursing services and health education to children and adolescents in the K-12 school setting. The program is approved by the State of New Jersey Department of Education.
This certificate program consists of 19 credits (7 courses) and can be competed in either two or four semesters, so you can go at a pace that is the most convenient for you. In order to enter the program, students must have the following four prerequisite courses (12 credits): Health Assessment, Community Family Health Nursing, Leadership Management, Nursing Research or Approved Electives.
Graduates who successfully complete the program receive a School Nurse/Teacher of Health Education Certificate. In addition, graduates are eligible to apply for both the New Jersey School Nurse and Teacher of Health Education Certificate from the New Jersey Department of Education.
For 18 additional credits (7 courses) the graduates from the certificate program can seamlessly transition into our Master of Arts in Education for School Nursing and Health Education.

Your practicum is an integral part of your learning process and gives you the hands-on experience you need to fully understand what it means to work as a school nurse and a health education teacher. One of the things that set Felician apart is the guidance and support you get during your field placements, as our faculty will work closely with you during this time to make sure you receive a valuable learning experience. In addition, students are mentored by certified school nurses and certified teachers of health education in school districts throughout the State of New Jersey. Practicum hours and school placements are coordinated with the academic calendar of the school district and geographic location of the student.
Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to apply for both the New Jersey School Nurse and Teacher of Health Education Certificate. Indicative of the support and service you can expect from Felician College, we will process the application for both certificates with the State of New Jersey Department of Education.
